The Art of Black Miami

Following a successful launch last year, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) brings back Art of Black Miami, a platform that shines a spotlight on local, national and international art and artists representing the African diaspora.  Art of Black Miami is part of Miami Heritage Month, celebrating the abundant artistic diversity found within Miami's mosaic and heritage-rich neighborhoods. Residents and visitors will experience new artwork and projects while attending special events, meeting artists, visiting pop-up art galleries and more.  A dedicated website – – provides real-time updates and more information on the African diaspora art representing African-American, Caribbean, Latin American and African cultures.

Culinary Tours
This year, two special culinary tours will be scheduled in partnership with History Miami Museum and Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus:

  • “#MiamiHeritage Culinary Tour” held December 12 at 1:00 pm: Enter to win 2 seats on the bus tour as part of a social media contest:
  • “Southern Florida Concierge Association Tour” held December 15 at 1:00 pm: Tickets will be given away by the Southern Florida Concierge Association on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Both tours invite participants to taste their way through the heart of Little Haiti, Little Havana, Historic Overtown and the West Grove with a guided tour led by Dr. Paul George. Conch fritters with pikliz, mojitos, fried catfish, tasty jerk chicken and several other authentic dishes will be sampled while participants learn more about the history, rhythm and aromas that make these multicultural communities so vibrant.

“Greater Miami and The Beaches welcomes record-breaking numbers of visitors who are looking to enjoy art, culture, dining, attractions and world-class events in addition to enjoying the beach”, said GMCVB President and CEO William D. Talbert, III, CDME. “The month of December offers visitors and locals alike an array of cultural happenings including Art Basel Miami Beach and more than 20 satellite art fairs.  Miami Heritage Month celebrates the rich multicultural assets of the destination and brings together all the events under one umbrella.”

Miami Heritage Month is part of the GMCVB’s increasingly popular Miami Temptations Program, which takes a thematic focus on the best that Miami has to offer throughout the year at attractive prices. Other programs include Miami Cruise Month (January), Miami Romance Month (February), Shop Miami Month (March), Miami Sports Month (April), Miami Museum Month (May), Miami Film Month (June), Miami Spa Month (July-August), Miami Spice Restaurant Month (August-September), Miami Attractions Month (October) and Miami Live Month (November).
