MIAMI, FL. (June 1, 2016) - The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) announces the return of Miami Film Month, sponsored by Citibank® and Stella Artois, offering events and a food-themed film making contest this June. Official sponsors Citibank® and Stella Artois® will be adding free popcorn at select art cinemas to Citibank® card holders. Film-goers will have access to discounted movie tickets by downloading a Miami Film Month pass and redeeming it for an $8 ticket across Miami’s art cinemas. To download the Miami Film Month pass, see participating art cinemas and learn about film events in June, visit www.MiamiFilmMonth.com.
The GMCVB, in partnership with Cinevisun and Black Film and Media Group (BFMG), invites aspiring film makers – both amateurs and pros – to highlight Miami’s multicultural culinary scene in a film of their own.
Entrants are asked to create a one to two minute video showcasing Miami’s multicultural food scene and submit via Visit Miami’s Facebook page where they will be voted on by fans. Films will also be professionally critiqued by Miami Short Film Festival director, William Vela. The winning film will be featured at the Miami Short Film Festival in November 2016. Entries can be submitted now through June 6 and the voting period will take place June 6 – June 20. The stakes are high as the top three filmmakers will receive cash prizes (Grand Prize $3,000; First Prize $1,500; Second Prize $500).
“Film makers have a way of storytelling that transcends any other medium. As more and more visitors travel to Miami to experience our heritage and culinary scene, it made sense that local film makers could describe this culinary love affair best, ” said GMCVB President & CEO William D. Talbert, III, CDME. “This year we celebrate 15 years of the Miami Spice culinary program and in that time the destination has evolved into a world-class food town. Miami’s culinary scene will make a tantalizing backdrop in these films, providing film goers with the taste and sounds of Miami on the big-screen.”
